Day 23: That Is So Gay
Originally uploaded by xrogue81

Back in 2008, before the November elections, I found this sticker on the ground. I picked it up and carried it around with me for weeks. After Prop 8 was passed, I tacked this up on my bulletin board to remind myself that the fight is not over and that there is still hope for humanity. Today, August 4, 2010, Prop 8 was overturned by a federal judge. Who knows what tomorrow will bring? Opponents and proponents will push on, but this is truly a big step.

Oh, hello Craig Manning from Degrassi.

How's it going, Steffi D. from Canadian Idol?

What are you guys doing in Orange County? Oh, you're here for the Spring Awakening tour? Why, I've seen that musical a total of SIX TIMES! It's so nice to meet you! Take a picture, yes?

You guysss... yesterday marked my 16th year living in the USA. I remember being so homesick when I was younger, but you know what? I'm SO HAPPY I live in this country. I don't think I can ever go back to the Philippines. Maybe for a very short vacation, yes, but I don't think I can live there again. Not with all the ridiculousness that's happening over there. I do take comfort in the fact that some Pinoys are still fighting the good fight, though. Maybe someday... I'd want to come back.

"Sasha and Malia, I love you both more than you can imagine. And you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the new White House."

- Barack Obama

Way to dampen Obama's victory, California.

On a brighter note, Prop 2 passed. That means farm animals will get bigger cages/fences. So basically right about now, according to California, farm animals >>>>>>>> gay people.

So what can be done now? Is there a way around this? And what will happen to gay couples who are already married?

Today I voted for hope and equality.

I got so giddy when I marked the bubble for Obama/Biden...
And then my heart started racing when I marked "NO" on Prop 8.

Now I just gotta wait... and wait... and wait...

It was pouring rain when I woke up this morning, but the sky cleared up as soon as I stepped out of the house to vote. My polling place was actually a garage in someone's house and when I arrived there were already 15-20 people ahead of me. It was a 30-minute wait, approximately. No sweat.

In the meantime I'm listening to some calming music and watching cute puppies on my computer screen. Oh, I'm also trying to busy myself at work. Those meeting minutes aren't gonna write themselves.

Anyways, if you haven't done so yet, go vote! And if you've already voted, I say congratulations! You deserve some free stuff so go get yourself free coffee from Starbucks, a free donut from Krispy Kreme, or free ice cream at Ben & Jerry's. See you when I see you!

Love does not delight in injustice
But rejoices in the truth

- Love Poem

I just finished watching Season 1 of "Torchwood." The finale made me cry :(

On Wednesday, my right index finger got caught in a heavy file drawer as I was closing it. OUCH. I still don't have full use of it. I'm typing this LJ entry without its help.

Must catch up on "Friday Night Lights." I haven't seen the last 3 episodes.

What's with these Mormon people from Utah coming to California to campaign for Prop 8??? Get out of my state, dammit. I still don't understand... the separation between church and state still holds right? Voting NO on Prop 8 will not ruin the "sanctity" of heterosexual marriage and it will not re-write the Bible. So what are these fuckers so worried about? I still don't get their reasoning. Fine, the church doesn't have to recognize gay marriage... but the state SHOULD.

P.S. This guy FTW.

And again... Utah, get out of my state. Go ballroom dancing instead. Or bring back "Big Love" already. I miss that show.

"If I had to name my greatest strength, I guess it would be my humility. Greatest weakness, it's possible that I'm a little too awesome."

- Barack Obama

La la la...
I'm just sitting here... chillin' and wearing my kickass Barack Obama tshirt. The only thing missing is a nice cup of hot cocoa. Or maybe some sort of alcoholic beverage.

I finally watched this week's episode of "Heroes." It didn't suck so I guess that means I'm gonna keep watching.

Let's talk about Prop 8. I mean, what the hell is up? I'm hearing that it's leaning more towards YES than NO right now. That is like, so wrong. Hey, California! Why can't you just admit that you're totally GAY? I know you've got the hots for Massachusetts. It's time to get the fuck up and do something about it. Free yourself of the lie!!! Embrace the homo that you are. Vote NO on Prop 8!!!

xrogue81: (obama1)

"Though I am flattered that Governor Palin has chosen to cite me as a source of wisdom, what I said had nothing to do with politics. This is yet another example of McCain and Palin distorting the truth, and all the more reason to remember that this campaign is not about gender, it is about which candidate has an agenda that will improve the lives of all Americans, including women. The truth is, if you care about the status of women in our society and in our troubled economy, the best choice by far is Obama-Biden."

- Madeleine Albright

I watched the debate and I was sort of bored. Thank goodness for [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political. The wank in that community made everything bearable. A couple of McCain/Palin supporters dropped by to stir things up (as they always do), but I must say... this dude definitely takes the cake:

"I'm just amazed because I know if Obama gets elected I can see the way the world is going to go and it's scary because some certain book predicted it would go that way. As crazy as it may seem, it's the truth. I don't care if you think I'm crazy, I don't care if you think I'm ignorant, I don't care what you say about me, but I know a lot of things and I know both sides, and all I can do is pray."

Ok, back up like, 500 feet. SOME CERTAIN BOOK? Is he one of those crazy people who believes that Obama is the antichrist because the Bible said so? I... don't... get it. The weird thing is that this dude said that he's a Hillary supporter and the only reason he's voting for McCain is because of Palin. EH? See "quote of the day." Kthnx.

Anyways, I started watching "True Blood" (thanks to [livejournal.com profile] expatiates). I'm enjoying it so far, but I've yet to be OMG!Amazed. I also saw the season premiere of "Friday Night Lights" (thanks, [livejournal.com profile] hopelessfangirl!) but I was sort of disappointed cuz it didn't make me tear up like it usually does. Tyra is still awesome, though :D

I took a day off today and went to the dentist. She drill-baby-drilled on my teeth. Various areas of my mouth were injected with anesthesia and in the end, I can barely drink water cuz I couldn't feel my lips! Two hours later, my mouth was still numb, but I was so hungry that I had to eat. I gotta say, I couldn't taste anything at all!!!! It was so unsatisfying. I took a nap afterwards and when I woke up, the numbness was gone, but my mouth was hella sore! Yikes!

Anyways, I gotta get back to my internet activities now. See you all later!

"The Republican National Convention in St. Paul, Minnesota -- brought to you by... mace. Mace! Mace: When someone's standing in front of you and you want them to move. Mace: When 'Get the f*ck outta here' just won't do."

- Jon Stewart, The Daily Show

So I've been spending a lot of time reading posts and comments on [livejournal.com profile] ontd_political. That community has taken over my life and so has Sarah Palin. Because of her, I donated money to MoveOn.org (and got a free Obama shirt!) Way to go, Republican Party!

Too bad that the shirt takes about 4-6 weeks to get delivered. I can't wait to wear it around the house so that my mom (who totally gets a hard-on for Bill O'Reilly) can see and be proud of me.

Apartment-hunting in LA is a paaaaain, you guys!!!! I'm not seriously looking yet, but daaaaamn... can I plz find a decent place that's less than $1,200, has access to public transportation, and not a bajillion miles away from LMU? Is Craigslist my only source?

Going out to dinner with Ray-Ray, O.G., and Phantom tonight. Weeeee!!! I will devour that linguini al pesto.

"Look, in my opinion the best thing you can do is find a person who loves you for exactly what you are. Good mood, bad mood, ugly, pretty, handsome, what-have-you. The right person is still going to think the sun shines out of your ass. That's the kind of person that's worth sticking with."

- Mac McGuff, Juno

[livejournal.com profile] expatiates posted this on her MySpace bulletin, it made me LOL!!!

This weekend was... hot. It was hot and yucky in my room and I want it to END already. I can't wait for frigging winter.

Anyways, I bummed around a lot and watched a few tear-jerker movies and cried. Oh, and I also bought new shirts from Threadless.com:

Speaking of buying stuff, I also bought new games for my Nintendo DS. Yep, I bought Jam Sessions and Flash Focus. And one day, I will buy Guitar Hero: On Tour. Weeee!

I slept at around 10:30 PM last night and woke up at 6 AM this morning. I was like, "Dang... what do I do now?" so I popped in my Hot Fuzz DVD, trimmed my nails, put on blue nail polish, and started my weekend. God, I miss having movie marathons.

Anyways, I'm watching Glory right now. Boy, that movie makes me cry. It's such a powerful film. And the music... ((sighs)) the music just does it for me. You da man, James Horner. I wonder what I'll be watching next...

Got a notice from Amazon.com that they've completed my refund for that blasted copy of Breaking Dawn. I'm so happy to see my $12.00 back!!!

Does anybody here use the Bare Escentuals mineral powder? Man, that shit clogs up my pores, which is weird cuz it's not supposed to clog pores!!! Back to regular powder I go.

McCain's VP choice is making me laugh and scared at the same time. Democrats think it's ridiculous. Republicans think it's the best plan evarr. How am I supposed to feel about this, you guysss?!!

Man, I shouldn't have woken up at 6 AM. Cuz now I'm all sleepy. Maybe I'll nap after I watch Glory. Anyways, have a great Labor Day weekend, ya'll!

I'm watching Olympic trampoline on TV. Heee! This is fun!
And how's about that Michael Phelps last night, eh? That was a nail biter! I loved it! I am totally ready for tonight's relay.

The swelling of my ankle has gone down. But now it's all bruised up and it looks ugly. You wanna see?
Click HERE if you don't mind being grossed out.

I see this commercial all the freaking time now, it's awesome!!! Yay, California!

My copy of Breaking Dawn has gone back into the box, ready to be returned to Amazon.com. It just wasn't worth it. I thought I'd be fine once I got to Jacob's part, but I realized that I HATE Edward and Bella more than I love Jacob :( This book did not dazzle me.

Have you guys seen my new LJ layout yet?

Dudes, we have dulce de leche coffee creamer. It's time to make myself some coffee!

... and also, I voted today :)
But I had to use a provisional ballot cuz I had to settle for the polling station here in LMU, where I am not registered. I leave for work at 6:20 AM and get back home at 7:00 PM so I don't have time to go to my regular polling place. I don't quite know how provisional ballots are counted so I'm crossing my fingers. I hope I filled out everything correctly.

Still watching clips from The Daily Show and The Colbert Report, btw. I just can't get enough. I am *this* close to buying the "Indecision 2004" DVD. Or maybe I'll just rent it from Netflix.

Filipino Table Etiquette Punished At Local School
Lunch monitor tells student his eating habits are ‘disgusting’

Jaw. Fucking. Drops.

I am Filipino. I was born in the Philippines. I grew up there.
And no, I don't use knives when I eat. I use my spoon and my fork to cut up my food. That's how I eat. Give me a knife and I wouldn't know what to do with it. Give me a knife and it'll take me hours to finish my dinner. Besides, I can't scoop up rice with a fricking knife so what the hell?

(SIDENOTE: I do use a knife when I eat steak... that is, if the steak doesn't come with rice on the side. If the meal involves rice -- and it usually does -- I use a fork and a spoon and that's it.)

I don't slobber all over myself. I don't spill drinks like crazy. And even though I also grew up using my hands to eat my food, I still have the sense to use a fork and a spoon. That is the 'civilized' way I eat.

So if some fucking idiot turns to me and tells me that my usage of a fork and a spoon is 'disgusting,' I sure do hope that he steps away. Because I can stab him with my UNUSED knife. So he betta recognize.

I am Filipino. I eat with a fork and a spoon. And I am NOT a pig.

Did you guys hear about this? Apparently women are nothing more than incubators! It's the new federal guideline, people! Never mind women's health! It's all about the Baby-You-Might-Have-Sometime-In-The-Future-MAYBE! Need medicine for your epilepsi? Well, you can't get it! Why? Because the baby that you don't have might die from it! (True story -- see [livejournal.com profile] shadesong's commentary below.)

Oh dear.

Yes, women should take care of themselves. There's no question about that. Our health is important. But this article just makes me feel like my only purpose in this world is to pop out some peeps.

Here are a couple more must-read commentaries:

From DailyKos.com
Shadesong's first-hand account

BIG thanks to [livejournal.com profile] vertigo66 for brining this to my attention.

In other news, I think I voted 10-gajillion times for Elliot Yamin last night. I don't care, man... I want him and Taylor to be the final two. That would totally make my day. I voted for Taylor too, of course. But if Elliot gets kicked out tonight... man, oh man, I'm gonna be so effing pissed. McPheever be DAMNED!

I woke up at 6am today and I heard noise. What the heck is that, I asked. So I opened my eyes and I saw my sister in her bathrobe... getting ready for work... watching Battlestar Galactica. Dude, I didn't even know she came home last night! Anyway, apparently that's how she's been catching up with the BSG dvd's from Netflix... she watches an episode every morning at frigging 5:30am! Wow. Color me amazed.

So I got up and brushed my teeth, right? And when I got back to my room, my sister goes...
"I told everyone at worked that I watch this show. Then I told them about how the characters say 'frak' all the time. So yesterday, everyone kept saying 'frak' at work!"

LMAO!!! Oh dear god, that BSG community that I've been dying to join must approve me now!!! How come the mod's aren't approving me, man? I want my BSG episodes NOW!

Ok, who has a Nielsen box and where can I get it? This whole VM renewal thing just made me all sorts of curious. I mean, the CW network is bringing back 7th Heaven, for frak's sake! How can this be so???? Well, I snooped around the net and apparently 7th Heaven was the WB's highest rated show? How can this be possible?!!! Srsly! Did UPN viewers just... missed the boat on this Nielsen thing? Because I don't know a single person who watches frigging 7th Heaven! And i'm sorry... but Everwood is 100 times better than One Tree Hill. I just... don't... get it. The size of the VM fandom is immense... we are HUGE, people! Are the networks telling me that all our obsessive viewings of this show are not being counted because we don't have a frakking box and the crazy 7th Heaven viewers do?!!!!

xrogue81: (hhr_mine)
Quote of the day:
"I hate the fall."

Okay, I know ya'll have heard me gripe about the summer weather, but now let me talk to you about the fall. I hate the fall. I hate that I have to wear a sweater in the morning, but I have to take it off in the middle of the day because it's too effing hot. I hate having to put my bulky sweater back in my backpack and lug it around. I hate having to tie it around my waist. I hate sweaty, humid rainy days. I should not be sweating when it's raining. I feel damp and icky and I feel like I'm gonna grow molds. It's eww. Just... let it be winter already.

On a brighter note, television rules. Grey's Anatomy rules and Prison Break rules. I love my TV shows. And speaking of --
I'm definitely boycotting the next episode of Smallville. Mmm hmmm, yessir. It's so effing corny, it's not even funny. I will certainly not be watching it. I spend so much time fast forwarding through that show, I'm starting to wonder if it's even worth TiVo-ing. *sighs* Anyways...

RIP, Rosa Parks.
I rode in front of the bus for you.

*icky information ahead*

Not cool:
Having your period while doing yoga.
SO not cool:
Having to wear a short and tiny shirt that doesn't cover your behind.
Definitely not cool:
Having a stain on your behind.

In other news... I'm pleased with last night's America's Next Top Model results. Camille was a bitch and I'm glad she's outta' there. But now they're down to my four favorite girls -- how do I deal, man???!!!!

I didn't vote yesterday. Yes, I know... ya'll must be disappointed in me. But my only excuse is that none of the candidates appealed to me. I was watching the debate on CNN last week and it was so boring that I was ready to vote for Al Sharpton just because he's the only one who kept me interested. And I can assure you, if my roommate voted, she would've voted for Sharpton too. Wait a minute... I think she DID vote. Did she? I'm gonna have to ask her.

I had an interesting conversation with Monster last night. Hahaha, she said I should audition for American Idol so I can put Filipinos on the map. I told her that if I did audition, I'm gonna sing Phoebe Buffay songs.

I found you in my bed
How'd you wind up there?
You are a mystery
Little black curly hair...

Anyways... that's about it. I have a midterm today so wish me luck!!!

so yesterday I told you guys about a student here in my school whose father died in the Pentagon crash.

today, I found out that I guy in my class... a guy whom I know... knew someone who died in the WTC crash.

It was his boss... I believe his last name was Gamboa... who just recently adopted a three-year-old.

This is very very sad...

p.s. I taped an American Flag on my dorm window. It's the least I can do.

so i knew that this tragedy would hit home for me.
i just didn't know that it would hit THIS home... this university.

see, today i went to my psychology class.
then I found out that a psych student here had a father who died in the Pittsburgh plane crash yesterday.

it's very shocking.
xrogue81: (Default)
so i take that all of you have heard about this horrifying news.

the "fall" of the world trade center is so devastating and scary. its intensity was so strong that they had to shut down Los Angeles too, especially LAX.

and it frightened me cuz LAX is only 5 mins away from my school.

And earlier today, the city looked like a ghost town...
even my school looked dead even though classes remained in session.

I guess when i first heard about the news, i didn't think it was a big deal. heck, i was still half-asleep at that time... just trying to get ready for my music class.

but then when i got out of my dorm, i noticed that everyone walking by were on their cellphones... and they looked panicked.

then i overheard someone talking about the terrorist attack and he was cussing non-stop cuz i think he had relatives there.

by this time, the news still hadn't sunk in.
I guess I only realized how BIG this thing was when I saw a view of Los Angeles in the news and it was empty.

there were no cars, no people.
it was just empty.

so then i just got paranoid... cuz I dont' know if the terrorists were gonna attack again or what.
then I remembered that a few Jahammers lived in New York so I started shaking...

See, LauraJ used to work at the World Trade Center. I started freaking out, man. Scary shit.
Luckily, she quit her job two weeks ago.

Man, if he hadn't quit that job... who knows...

and Marteh lives in NY too! I'm just glad she's ok. We still haven't heard from Kate, so I'm praying for her safety.

My thoughts are with those who were victims of this tragedy and my condolences goes to those who lost their loved ones.

I hope all of you are ok.
Be safe.
I love you.
